How to find a name you want to keep
- Choose a character role and a name format.
- Set a character limit for the game, username or character sheet you’re using.
- Generate a batch. Copy a name or save several, then download your shortlist.
Build a cyberpunk name around a role
A useful character name gives the listener one clue without explaining a whole backstory. Start with the job: a runner needs a handle that is quick to say over a radio; a fixer may prefer a name that sounds ordinary enough to pass unnoticed. The role selector changes the word bank, so the results have a different rhythm instead of simply changing a label.
Single-word handles suit usernames and callsigns. Two-word aliases give you more contrast: pair something technical with a natural image, or a sharp sound with a soft ending. Read the name aloud before choosing it. If two people in your group have similar names, change the first sound to make dialogue easier to follow.
Hacker handles, aliases and real-name covers
A hacker name can draw on signals, errors or visual patterns. A street name can suggest motion, an object or a habit. Corporate cover names use given names and surnames, which can work well when the character wants to blend into an office rather than announce an underground identity.
For a double life, generate a corporate cover first and a street alias second. Keep both in your shortlist. Write a sentence about who uses each name: friends may know the handle while an employer uses the cover. That small distinction is often more useful than a long invented etymology.
Using names in games and fiction
This is a genre naming aid for science-fiction stories, tabletop games and personal characters, including characters you create for cyberpunk games. It does not reproduce a game’s character roster or verify lore, account availability or a platform’s naming rules. The character limit counts spaces and punctuation too.
The illustration is an original imagined city, not a screenshot or depiction of an official location. Names are assembled from authored word banks; occasional matches with real people, brands or existing fiction remain possible.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this for Cyberpunk 2077 or a tabletop character?
Yes, as a source of original name ideas for your own character. This independent tool is not affiliated with CD PROJEKT RED or R. Talsorian Games and does not check game lore or account availability.
How do I make a short hacker handle?
Choose Hacker / tech, select Single-word handle, and choose a suitable character limit. For a longer alias, use the two-word format.
Is this generator free?
Yes. Generate, copy and save names without an account. Generation happens in your browser and does not call an AI service.
Will my saved names stay here?
Saved names are kept in this browser’s local storage, separately for each generator. Clearing site data removes them; private browsing or blocked storage may keep them only for this visit. Download your shortlist to keep a copy.
Are generated names guaranteed to be unique?
No. A batch contains no duplicates, but a name can appear again later or already exist elsewhere. Search a shortlist before using it for a public project.
